At the spring festival “Aoling” of the Thendu Konyaks Nagas,an old headhunter blows a Buffalo horn. Horns are an integral part of Naga life. They used antelope horns as ear ornaments, Mithun horns as a vessel to drink rice beer. Buffalo and Mithun horns adorn the frontage of houses and signify the wealth of the owner. They also appear as motifs in shawls, skirts, langtam (loin cloth), carvings, etc. The tattoos on his face also represent he has taken part in Head-hunting raids and brings respect to him. These tattooing practices are now taboo and are shunned due to the influence of Christianity.
