Often phallic in shape and erected as male and
female, these stones symbolise the fertility rites of the
Angami Nagas. The erection of megaliths promotes
fertility of crops, land and cattle. The youngest son sets up
the stone to stress the link between the social world and
the world of spirits. Hundreds of megaliths such as these
are scattered over the Angami region. They are not
merely silent mysterious dim past but are a living and vital
part of Naga culture.
